Last year, through our Family Education Program, CHS reached out to over 1,600 agencies, providing valuable educational materials including our Family Education brochure series, Activity Book for Children, Character Growth Chart, Development Stages Wheel, and Selecting Child Care for Your Baby video and curriculum guide.

Children’s Home Society of California has created a series of Family Education brochures that assists parents and other caregivers with the common concerns of physical well-being, emotional well-being, and parenting strategies. With topics such as Positive Discipline, Separation, and When a Child Bites, available free of charge in English, Khmer, Spanish, and Vietnamese, CHS has distributed over 1.5 million brochures nationwide last fiscal year.

Our Activity Book allows CHS to reach out to children ages 5 to 12 by educating them on a variety of important subjects, including bullying, character, exercise, health, nutrition, and safety. Children learn while having fun by completing activities, such as a crossword puzzle, maze, connect-the-dots, and word search. CHS’s Activity Book is available in English and Spanish. Last fiscal year over 75,000 Activity Books were sent to agencies nationwide.

The Character Growth Chart is the newest addition to CHS's Family Education materials. This tool not only measures the height of a growing child, but also encourages children to build character as they read about qualities such as gratitude, responsibility, generosity, and patience. Presented in a mail-ready envelope, the Character Growth Chart also includes a tip sheet of educational activities to make the most of this valuable resource.

With the help of CHS’s Development Stages Wheel, parents and caregivers can learn to identify crucial stages in their children’s development and the appropriate activities to support and stimulate growth. The Development Stages Wheel is available in English and Spanish. Over 95,000 wheels were distributed throughout the United States last year.

The CHS Selecting Child Care for Your Baby DVD helps parents make informed decisions about choosing safe, quality child care for their children. The DVD and complementary curriculum guide reach a wide variety of professionals, child development programs, parent education programs, and community resource sites. CHS assists parents in seeking quality child care, ultimately raising the standard of care in California communities and throughout the United States. Selecting Child Care for Your Baby is also available in a VHS format. The DVD, video, and curriculum guide are available in English and Spanish. Last fiscal year, CHS distributed over 5,000 English and Spanish videos and curriculum guides to agencies in California and nationwide, free of charge.
