Families
The Resource and Referral (R&R) Program is a central coordinating link for child care and development services within a geographic area; usually a county, city, or community. Through the R&R program, CHS offers a wide range of services to parents, licensed child care providers, people interested in becoming licensed child care providers, and community groups who focus on child care and development issues. All R&R services are free of charge.
R&R Locations
CHS provides R&R services in the following areas/counties of California: Greater Long Beach, Orange County, Sutter County, Yolo County, and Yuba County. For R&R services in a different county within California, please contact the California Resource and Referral Network at www.rrnetwork.org. For R&R services outside of California, please contact Child Care Aware at http://childcareaware.org.
Resource and Referral Hotline
CHS provides a Resource and Referral Hotline which is available to parents, child care providers, and the community. The R&R Hotline is available Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. It is closed during holidays.
You can call the R&R Hotline to find child care referrals in your area, learn about different child care options, report that you are a licensed provider who wants to be referred, update information for the Child Care Eligibility List (CCEL), schedule a library appointment, learn about upcoming workshops or events, request information about child development, and for community resources that support continued education, family well-being, and employment assistance.
If you are an early childhood professional seeking employment, or have an employment opportunity for educators that you wish to post, contact the R&R Hotline for assistance.
Search for a Child Care Provider Online
The online child care provider search tool will allow you to search for child care providers within Children’s Home Society of California’s (CHS) database. This information is a referral, not a recommendation. CHS does not screen for quality of care and we encourage parents to visit the child care providers before making a decision.
Education and Resource Lending Library
The R&R program offers a Lending Library with educational resources such as developmentally appropriate toys and learning materials, books, and educational DVDs. Materials can be checked out free of charge for one (1) month. Some R&R locations also provide die-cut and lamination services. Resources are available to parents, providers, and the community. Contact the CHS R&R in your area to schedule an appointment to visit the library.
CHS Parent and Provider Newsletters
CHS provides a quarterly newsletter to child care providers in the Greater Long Beach, Orange County, San Diego County, Ventura County, Sutter County, Yolo County, and Yuba County areas. The newsletter contains helpful information about child development issues, child health tips, curriculum activities, and other relevant topics. CHS also provides a biannual newsletter for parents regarding parenting and career issues, recipes, activity ideas, and more.
Workshops and Professional Development
CHS offers professional development workshops throughout the year for early childhood educators, and quarterly workshops for parents. Workshops include a variety of topics such as child development, marketing a child care business, positive discipline, parenting tips, and more. Creating a quality environment and program for children requires skill, dedication, patience, and continuing education. CHS's professional development trainings support the quality, growth, and professionalism of child care programs and child care providers. Take a look at our Workshops and Events Calendar for a list of our professional development trainings in your area.
Other resources for trainings include Community Care Licensing, community colleges, R&R agencies in nearby counties, child care associations, school district programs, and other professional groups. Call the R&R Hotline to learn about upcoming workshops available in your community.
Brochures and Educational Materials
The R&R Program offers educational brochures free of charge for families and child care providers:
The Resource & Referral Program Brochure – explains the services offered by the R&R Program.
Parental Choice Brochure – Explains your parental rights when searching for childcare and provides tips on how to choose the best childcare for your family.
These brochures are offered in English and Spanish.
